🇫🇷 Nice is one of the Nicest places we've seen. We'd been having a bit of "weather" in the Mediterranean to say the least and several bike rides were canceled, but thankfully this morning there was a nice break and we did a fabulous e-bike tour all around Nice, along the seaside Promenade des Anglais, to the Old Port of Nice (Port Lympia), up to Colline du Chateau (Castle Hill) – a spectacular park with stunning vistas over Nice and the sea, named for a castle once there that was destroyed by King Louis XIVin 1706, and around the city on some excellent bicycling infrastructure. Our young French woman guide from Mobilboard Nice (€35) narrated in English to us and French to the other five in the group. We learned a lot about the area and really enjoyed the experience. After the ride we strolled all around the extensive Vieux (old) Nice district, and stopped for lunch at Luks, an excellent middle eastern fast food joint. The ship was anchored off Villefranche, a gem of a medieval town perched on a hill overlooking its namesake bay. We took the train into Nice, only a couple of stops, and after we returned from Nice we explored Villefranche, rather than taking another train ride to nearby Monte Carlo. The next port was Marseilles, and due to the poor weather forecast I had cancelled a great sounding e-bike tour there, and we just decided to rest on the ship rather than going into the town; daily port visits gets tiring after a while.
